RADIO

1. How do you improve your radio reception?

Any radio is only as good as its reception. The antenna and its installation location in the vehicle play a very important role in both analogue and digital radio reception. Therefore, make sure that the best possible antenna is used.

In newer vehicles from around the year of construction 2018, the original vehicle antenna can usually be used for both analogue and digital radio reception. The DAB + window antennas included in the naviceivers are only to be used if no factory-fitted fender or roof antenna is available. Often a corresponding adapter, splitter or antenna amplifier can also offer the optimal solution. We have the following tips for you to optimize your radio reception:

  • Preferably use a fender or roof antenna for analogue and digital radio reception.

  • If possible, use an active AM / FM / DAB antenna or an antenna amplifier.

  • When using a window antenna, it should be correctly mounted on the windscreen.

  • Make sure that the antenna you are using is properly connected and installed.

2. Do you only receive a few or no analog radio stations?

There are usually a large number of radio stations to be received in metropolitan areas. However, if you are traveling in more remote areas such as valleys or mountains, the number of available channels with good reception is noticeably reduced due to the geographical conditions. In order to still be able to receive more radio stations there, we have the following tips ready:

  • Deactivate the REG (regional) mode in the RDS functions in the radio menu.
This prevents the radio from only finding regional stations with a weak signal. The reception area is then expanded to include more powerful transmitters that can still be received very well further away.

  • Deactivate the AF (Alternative Frequency) mode in the RDS functions in the radio menu.
This prevents the radio from only showing stations that are broadcast on an alternative frequency in the current reception area. The reception range is then expanded to include stations that do not offer an alternative frequency.

  • Deactivate or change the PTY (program type) mode in the RDS functions in the radio menu.
This prevents the radio from only showing stations that correspond to the selected program type. Therefore change the program type or select NONE.

3. The station search does not stop and no radio station is found?

If the antenna is connected correctly and the radio is working, please refer to the instructions in section 2.

Otherwise, check the instructions in section 1 again.

4. Only with i20 / i30 / i35: Does the external DAB tuner module not work?

The external ESX tuner module VNA-TM-DAB2 for i20 / i30 / i35 devices is available in two different versions with regard to the firmware. It is essential to select the correct version of the ESX naviceiver for the software version (displayed under Apps -> Options -> System), otherwise the module will not work!

FW1 = Firmware 1.0 for devices of the series i20 and i30 with software version until 4xx-7700

FW2 = Firmware 2.0 for devices of the series i20, i30 and i35 with software version from 4xx-7727

Note about previous versions:

For older modules with the designation VNA-TM-DAB (without marking or without sticker concerning the

firmware), the devices are basically firmware 1.0.
